Lens Mount Nikkor AF-S 16-35mm f/4 VR

I own this lens and I am very pleased with it's quality, but I don't use it very often. Recently I detected that when demounting the lens from the body it is possible to turn the lens beyond the point where the two white markers (body and lens) meet. All my other Nikkors cannot be turned beyond that point as there is a mechanical block. I would be glad to hear if other users of the Nikkor 16-35mm f/4 have similar experiences. Thank you in advance Thomas

Really no one who is using the Nikkor AF-S 16-35mm f/4 VR?

I don't have the lens you are referring to, but I've never experienced this with any of my Nikkors. Does the rear lens mount on the 16-35 look damaged or different than the rear lens mount of your other lenses?

No, the odd thing is that there is no visible damage or difference to other Nikkor lenses; and the lens works perfectly. The only disturbance is the absence of the mechanical stop in the right position when turning the lens for change.

Now I see what is missing: a tiny screw at the trip of the lens mount.

I was ready to suggest you take the lens to the nearest Nikon service Thomas. I am glad you found the problem.

I'm using it and the same thing happened to me. In a rush, I experienced a brain fart and turned the wrong way. It should not have moved in that direction, but it did. That was several months ago and I think I had to continue to turn the wrong way because the resistance I meet with in trying to correct matters told me I was about to break something. A very scary moment, but everything seems ok.

Strange, huh?

I have this lens and I am also very pleased with the quality. But I have never made the experience you did. White markers stopp the lens and nothing other happened.

Mine was missing ,too. Maybe its time to inspect the rest of my lenses. If you're not sure of its location, a quick google search will help you find it.

Maybe only US-lenses are affected. My lens has a US-serial number; although I bought it used through an online auction from someone living in my country who sold it after a few weeks of use. It must have been a "grey import." I don't mind because the quality of the lens is very pleasing. I asked a nearby Nikon dealer to get me the screw. I should get it in the next few days.

Everything is fine again. I asked a Nikon dealer here where I live, they ordered a replacement screw, Nikon Switzerland sent actually two (in case you drop one), my dealer screwed it (you need a special tool); everthing free of charge.

Great. Now we just have to be on watch for the unlikely recurrence. I replaced mine the day you made the post indicating that you had new screws coming. With a slew of old F-Mounts laying around, I simply robbed one and replaced it myself. It is a tiny screw requiring the use of a jewelers screwdriver.

A very small screw, indeed. This may help.
